I love to share my experience and knowledge of photography and the powerful effect it can have in people's lives through workshops, global tours, speaking and media engagements.

I began my journey in photography assisting at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and consequently have spent hundreds of hours in the most inspirational educational environments, learning from some of photography's great modern masters, including Macduff Everton, Joe McNally and Jay Maisel.

With an extensive background in theatre, music and television, I am extremely comfortable on-screen and on-stage. I studied for many years with the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama, affiliated with the National Arts Centre, and have been awarded a Performer's Certificate from the Trinity College of London.

I have been fortunate to help manage events with the National Geographic Traveler Seminars across North America, and have led fantastic travel and photography destination tours with Sacred Earth Journeys, our last tour having been to the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan.

Photography: The Art of Visual Storytelling
Sept 19-22, 2010 Hollyhock Retreat Centre, Cortes Island BC

Everyone has a story. Learn how to communicate the important stories of your life, family or organization through powerful photographic images and narrative. First, we will lay the foundation with an understanding of how to use the more advanced functions of your camera, and introduce a workflow that will allow you to efficiently download, edit and backup your images. Then, through constructive daily critiques, creative explorations and assignments, learn what makes a good photograph, the importance of light, how to capture a sense of place, and how to create authentic portraits. Explore the concept of a story angle and narrative, and how to illustrate this through photography. Finally, discover a multitude of ways to share and celebrate your story with the world. Everyone is welcome. Please bring your digital camera, and laptop if you have one.
